John Jorgenson Quintet Friday, September 12 - 7:30 pm - Sydney Laurence Theatre
John Jorgenson’s Quintet thrilled audiences at such prestigious and diverse festivals as Merlefest, Winnipeg Folk Festival, and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Jorgenson’s dizzying resume includes featured stints with Elton John, the Desert Rose Band and The Hellcasters, as well as recordings with the likes of Sting and Bonnie Raitt, and a 2007 Grammy. In its first Anchorage appearance, The Quintet will perform originals, classics, and dazzling gypsy jazz by Django Reinhart.

Saturday, October 4 - 7:30 pm - Discovery Theatre The Duhks
The Winnipeg band, The Duhks, have been riveting audiences and winning staunch fans across North America. Since the release of their self-titled, Bela Fleck-produced album in 2005, and the consequent re-release of their Canadian debut, the band has won admirers as diverse as David Crosby, Dolly Parton, and Doc Watson. with their blend of soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old time country string band, zydeco, and Irish dance music.

Ruthie Foster and Eric Bibb
Sunday November 9 – 4 pm –Sydney Laurence Theatre
A prodigiously gifted Texas singer-songwriter, Ruthie Foster has quickly established herself as one of the roots music world’s brightest stars, drawing comparisons to Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald as well as Tracy Chapman and Joan Armatrading. The Los Angeles Times says Ruthie "will convert those hungry for some real, hot soul."
Eric Bibb, who is a friend of Ruthie, returns to Anchorage for the second time with his repertoire of wonderful songs, deft guitar playing, and silky voice that will appeal to fans of top songwriters and singer-performers such as
Keb Mo, Taj Mahal, and Geoff Muldaur.

Dan Bern & Marshall Crenshaw
Friday December 5 – 7:30 pm – Discovery Theatre
This bill pairs two of America’s most brilliant and underappreciated songwriters who each contributed writing to the hit movie “Walk Hard.” Dan Bern, a frequent visitor to Anchorage, has achieved a near legendary status for his terrific songs and inspired live performances. Crenshaw, who hails originally from Detroit, has played John Lennon in the touring Broadway production of Beatlemania, Buddy Holly in the hit movie “La Bamba,” and has written dozens of brilliant songs that have been covered by Kelly Willis, Ronnie Spector, Lou Ann Barton, Robert Gordon and others. |
